How to get your brochure print-ready

I’ve been doing brochure design for several years and would like to give some basic advice for both brochure graphic design and the brochure printing process. Please feel free to add information or post comments for discussion!

Sizes
Full Color brochure printing can be done in nearly any size. However, the standard sizes are 8 1/2” x 11” or 11” x 17″. All sizes for brochures are measured with an unfolded brochure.

We recommend picking the size for your brochure depending on your content. Once you know what your images are going to be, how you would like to place them on the brochure, and which message you want to convey, it is much easier to pick a size. Standard sizes are usually perfect. They are sized to work as handouts or inserts for presentation folders or brochure holders. Smaller sizes are meant for single-product brochure and for organizational purposes. Custom sized full color brochure printing is used to make your brochure stand out. Always remember how your brochure will be presented. In case your brochure has an unusual size and and/or shape, you will also need custom designed envelopes, folders or brochure holders.

Paper Stock for Full color Brochures
The standard paper stock for full colored brochure printing is 80# Gloss Text. Other standard paper stocks are 100# Gloss Text, 80# Gloss Cover and 100# Gloss Cover. 80# or 100# simply refers to the “weight” of the paper stock. 80# is lighter than 100#.

Cover stock is denser than text stock, which means that a 100# text stock is easier to see through than 100# cover stock. That is why we recommend 100# cover stock if your brochure design has large images or a lot of text on either side of the brochure. In this case, your full color brochure printing project will look much more professional in appearance with the more opaque 100# cover stock.

Some Printers might have custom paper or cover stock available for brochure printing. It can definitely create a very unique look and feel for your custom brochures. Please remember though, any custom paper or sizes will typically increase your overall printing costs and will add to your turnaround time.

In order to meet your expectations, we highly recommend choosing a local or national printer who offers graphic design services and can assist you with your file submission, or is able to fix files for you.

Angelprinting provides graphic design and support services for all their customers and makes sure, your job gets turned around on time and to your satisfaction!

Folding Options
To decide on a certain fold or no fold, ask yourself 3 simple questions:
- First, will a fold “pull” viewers into the brochure?
- Second, will folds split your messages well?
- Third, does your message work without folds?

Various custom folds are possible. However, folds must typically run parallel to an edge of the full color brochure.

Dpi
In order to achieve a nice and crisp looking brochure with clear images, the resolution of your picture needs to be 300 dpi to size. Resolutions lower than 300 dpi will look blurry and ruin your brochure, resolutions higher than 300 dpi will just waste your memory and are unnecessary for brochure printing.

The quality of your brochure is dependant on good brochure design. Brochure design can be a little overwhelming, sometimes. If you need help, just fill out the email and comment part in our help section.
